I started training at the age of 15 with David Bland in Muaythai then with Mike Barnardo (World Heavyweight K1 kickboxing and W.A.K.O Muaythai Pro Champion and WBF boxing champion). Thank you Mike.
Turned professional boxer with world champion trainer Lakis Campanis and Gary Murray (WBU lightweight world champion) and Jim Murray (S.A. light heavyweight champion).
I have trained Rico Hattingh with Mike Barnardo in K1 and have make champions out of many young fighters like Dale Alexander SA K1 Amateur Champ, Brandon De Beer SA Amateur K1 Champ and Nuraan Noordien also SA Amateur K1 Champ!
I have 23 years training and fighting experience, I have trained with the best and learnt from the best, to train you to be the best.
FRANCOIS GROENEWALD | BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU
I started Brazilian Jiu Jitsu 2006 and got awarded my Black belt in 2015.
I’ve been S.A champion multiple times for Fila as well as sasca IN Go and no Gi. I also competed at the Abu Dhabi worlds, finishing with a bronze medal.
2008 I started with MMA fighting and had a record 7-2 before going Pro. I am currently an active pro fighter in the EFC worldwide organisation with a record of 9-6
NICK GORMAN | MUAY THAI
I finished high school In Cape Town and went to UCT. It was during my time there that I started Muay Thai. I won my national colours in 2007 and 2008. In 2007 I won the bronze medal in Bangkok at the IFMA world championships, and in 2008 I won the silver medal in Korea. My current pro-am record is eighteen fights, thirteen wins, and five losses.
I’ve quite recently returned to Cape Town after working in the mining world, where I moved through London, Mozambique, Joburg, then the DR Congo. In 2015 I joined Takedown gym and had two fights that year.
I love training, teaching and fighting. I also love to travel, write, dive, and take photos.
DOUGLAS GRAHAM | BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU – KIDS
I started training Kimura Shukokai Karate in 2005 and I have my 1st Dan black belt. I received my Protea colours and competed internationally in two World Championships where I came third as well as the Commonwealth Games where I came third and at the All Black karate cup in New Zealand where I came 2nd. I am also a 2 time national champion, among many other medals won locally.
I have my blue belt in BJJ and I consider myself a constant martial arts practitioner and a humble follower of the martial arts way of life. I used to teach karate classes and have an understanding on how to deal with kids and how to teach them. I train BJJ under the BJJ black belt Francois Groenewald and I teach the BJJ kids classes at Takedown MMA Academy.
JOSH LIGHT | BOXING / KICK BOXING
My name is Josh Light and I am a Mixed Martial Artist. I started training and competing at the age of five and grew up surrounded by fighting sports. Growing up I trained in Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Pankration and started boxing and kickboxing at the age of 15.
I have been at TakeDown MMA since the day it opened, training and competing with the Takedown family. I have competed in most fighting styles and I am the former CFL MMA Lightweight Champion.
I believe in fitness. I have a passion for being fit and healthy and I use Fighting arts and other sports to do so.
